Bulldogs Sweep the Field: Ellensburg Dominates East Valley and Quincy in CWAC Opener

YAKIMA, WA â€” The Ellensburg Bulldogs track and field program opened CWAC league play with a statement on Wednesday, April 22, as both the boys and girls squads secured convincing dual-meet victories over East Valley and Quincy. The boys’ team was particularly relentless, winning 13 of the 17 contested events to start their conference campaign with a perfect 2–0 record.


Boys Program: A 13-Event Masterclass

The Bulldogs boys’ team left little doubt in Yakima, defeating East Valley 96–49 and overwhelming Quincy 126–19. The distance crew and throwers led the charge, securing multiple podium sweeps to pad the team score.

  • Distance Dominance: In the 800m, Mystic Hammond (1:59), Dan Sullivan (2:02), and Calder Finn (2:03) locked out the top three spots. Rhye Phillips added a win in the 1600m (4:45), while Graeme Branine cruised to a victory in the 3200m.
  • The Big Guys: Silas Stewman (53’8″) and Carlos Patino (51’7″) went 1–2 in the shot put. Levi Gough showcased his versatility by winning both the discus (155’8″) and the javelin (161’3″).
  • Vertical & Horizontal Jumps: Coltyn Taasevigen stole the show in the triple jump, setting a new Personal Record (PR) of 43’11” to take first. James Hall followed up with a win in the long jump (20’4″), while Cade Smith cleared 12’0″ to win the pole vault.

Girls Program: Potucek and Liang Lead the Way

The Ellensburg girls were equally impressive, taking down East Valley 85–65 and Quincy 132–18. The Bulldogs claimed 11 of the 18 events, powered by a historic day from senior leader Brea Potucek.

  • The “Quad-Crown”: Brea Potucek put on a clinic, securing four total wins on the day. She swept the 100m (13.09) and 200m (26.77), anchored the winning 4x100m relay, and finalized her afternoon with a victory in the long jump (16’8.5″).
  • Hurdle Queen: Yutong Liang proved to be the fastest over the barriers, sweeping both the 100m hurdles (17.00) and the 300m hurdles (48.38).
  • Distance Depth: Much like the boys, the girls’ mid-distance crew secured a 1–2–3 sweep in the 800m, led by Emerson Warness (2:36.26), followed closely by Marianna Crosby and Faye Nemrow. Crosby also picked up a win in the 3200m.

  • Friday, April 24: Selected athletes will travel to compete in the prestigious Nike/Jesuit Twilight Relays.
