Bulldogs Fall in Defensive Battle Against Rams

The Ellensburg boys soccer team opened their home slate at EHS on Tuesday night, facing off against a disciplined West Valley squad. In a match defined by defensive grit and physical play, the Bulldogs ultimately fell short in a narrow 1-0 loss.

Match Breakdown

The gameโ€™s lone goal came midway through the first half. West Valleyโ€™s Cristian Marin (#14) found the back of the net at the 24:00 mark, slotting home a clinical finish to give the Rams the lead.

Despite the deficit, Ellensburgโ€™s defense remained stout for the remainder of the contest. The Bulldogs’ backline and midfield tightened up, shutting out the Rams for the final 56 minutes of play, but the EHS attack couldn’t quite find the equalizer before the final whistle.

Between the Posts

Senior keeper Parker Sterkel was a bright spot for the Bulldogs. Sterkel kept Ellensburg within striking distance throughout the night, recording 5 saves and commanding his box under heavy pressure from the West Valley offense.

Final Score:

  • West Valley: 1
  • Ellensburg: 0

Looking Ahead

The Bulldogs will look to find their offensive rhythm as they move deeper into the March schedule, next traveling to the Mavericks of Moses Lake High School on Thursday, March 12. While today’s result wasn’t what they hoped for, the defensive resilience shown in the second half provides a solid foundation to build on.
