Bulldogs Strike Early: Ellensburg Dominates Season-Opening Jamboree
YAKIMA, WA โ The Ellensburg Bulldogs boys’ golf team kicked off their season with a statement win, defeating Davis High School in a nine-hole jamboree at Westwood Golf Club on Thursday. Displaying mid-season form early, the Bulldogs carded a team score of 157, comfortably outdistancing the Pirates, who finished with a 183.
Stephenson Sizzles with Birdie Barrage
The story of the day was Blake Stephenson, who led all golfers with a spectacular 37. Stephensonโs round was highlighted by a torrid stretch on the middle of the course, where he carded three consecutive birdies on holes 5, 6, and 7.
The Bulldogs’ depth was on full display as they placed three golfers in the 30s:
- Blake Stephenson: 37
- Axel Tornow: 39
- Brody Kercher: 39
- Mike Counce: 42
The Pirates were led by Harold Charley, who turned in a solid 44, followed by Rolando Guzman with a 45. Marcus Smith and David Vazquez both carded rounds of 47 to round out the scoring for Davis.

While the victory was decisive, Ellensburg Head Coach Garrett Harris is keeping the team focused on the long game.
โIt was a great start to the season today,” Harris said. “There were a lot of great moments, and also a lot of moments where we saw exactly where we need to improve upon.โ

The Bulldogs will look to carry this momentum into their first official non-league match of the year. Ellensburg travels to Black Rock Creek this coming Monday, March 16 to continue their spring campaign.
